Probably nobody cares, but some of this stuff is so randomly weird that I needed to share it. I was going through the freezer/reorganizing/thinking about how I buy all this food at the grocery store but never seem to really ever EAT any of it, and I decided to make a freezer inventory so I knew what was in there. I have no pre-supposed notions that I'm going to keep it updated, but at least I can give you this snapshot into my life. Sort of by accident, I think they go in increasing order of weirdness.
1. Box of No Name Steaks
2. Box of frozen battered fish fillets
3. Box of salmon burgers
4. Box of mushroom veggie burgers
5. 1 freezer burnt turkey burger patty
6. Tube of ground turkey burger
7. 1lb delicious grass fed ground beef
8. Venison chops
9. 2 packages of bacon (I buy all bacon buy-one-get-one)
10. Package of catfish nuggets
11. Tube of GimmeLean sausage
12. Package of 3 brats
13. Package of 2 Italian sausages
14. 1 miscellaneous grillable sausage (I had a hard time deciphering if it's a turkey brat or a regular brat)
15. 1 package of already cooked brats (which are now freezer burnt)
16. 3 packages of country style pork ribs (there was a sale at the store)
17. 1 package of some kind of chicken
18. 1 12oz. steak (scheduled for digestion on Thursday)
19. 1 wild caught salmon fillet
20. 2 tiny strips of sushi grade tuna
21. Bag of butternut squash filling (there was a ton of extra filling from last round of ravioli)
22. Bag of butternut squash ravioli (to be used for soup--per my father)
23. Bag of frozen blackberries/raspberries
24. Package of anko filling (I bought a can and used like 3 scoops and froze the rest)
25. Package of won ton wrappers
26. Bag of salad shrimp
27. Package of pork buns
28. Bag of green tea buns
29. Bag of edamame
30. Bag of pork/mushroom dumplings
31. Package of sliced lotus root
32. 3 bags of frozen corn
33. Container of vanilla ice cream
34. 1 no-bake cheesecake mix (I lost the box)
The kickers here are that I don't eat beef (unless it's grass fed and reasonably local) because I don't like feedlots and I think that beef is the least environmentally sustainable of the meats. I'd give up pork (I did at one point), but I REALLY like barbecue. And bacon. I'm not that good of an environmentalist. Much of this beef (sans the grass fed ground beef that I'm saving for a special occasion), is holdovers from my previous life. So like....2 years ago. Yep. Still in the freezer. The steaks I bought at the store on Thursday because they were featured in a 5 for $20 meats sale. $5 12-oz steak!!!! I told you I'm not that good of an environmentalist. Cows taste like AWESOME. I'm also lactose intolerant. But I really like Havarti cheese. So I keep it in the freezer, and every so often when I'm feeling masochistic, I thaw some, slice some off, and eat cheese and crackers like there's no tomorrow. Then find myself 3-6 hours later firmly believing that there will BE no tomorrow. Yeah.
So there.....just for fun!
