Why I Love October

Yes, I love the fall. I love the leaves changing and the cooler (I said COOLER, Minnesota...not FRIGID) temperatures. I love apple picking and pumpkin farms and corn mazes. I love harvest time and Thanksgiving. I love all of those things. They're some of my favorite events and they all happen at once. Fall is a wonderful time.

October in particular is a great month. Lots of nice colors. Lots of awesome. Lots of candy. Lots of sports.

What's that? You ask. Sports....you were just talking about the awesomeness of the leaves and the harvest. Yes, I was. And those things are important to me. But yesterday, I spent my Monday night doing the following. And it was a FANTASTIC way to spend an evening.

(The TV on your left is showing the Broncos/Chargers game, my phone camera just didn't know what to do with a moving image THAT large and THAT close.)

The Broncos were playing beating the Chargers to remain undefeated and continue their 19-0 season. The Angels had already won in not so epic walk-off fashion to beat the Yankees. The Dodgers were in the process of beating the hated Phillies. I was drinking $3 Coors Light out of awesome color-change plastic cups, eating boneless wings (which, incidentally, were obscenely salty) and taking it all in. On WALLS of ginormous televisions. Isn't America fantastic?

Fall in Minneapolis

I realize that many of my blog readers have the good sense not to live in the frozen north. For this I commend you. Though I will say that this place is fantastic in the spring and the fall. Supposedly. Though not since I've been here. This is my third fall in the great Twin Cities metropolitan area, and not a one of them has behaved like an actual fall. This year, however, takes the prize.

I learned a statistic yesterday. Prior to yesterday, there had been 8 days of measurable snowfall before October 15 in the Twin Cities. One of those days was Saturday. #9? Well.....let's look at some photos from my day yesterday. October 12, 2009.
